Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Paro – Transfer to Thimphu & City Sights
Land at Paro International Airport, where your guide and driver will greet you for a scenic drive to Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu (approx. 1 hour). Settle into the city with flexible sightseeing based on your interests and time—explore the grand Tashichho Dzong (royal government seat), the bustling Farmers Market (especially lively on weekends), and enjoy your first taste of Bhutanese hospitality. Overnight stay in Thimphu.
Day 2: Full-Day Thimphu Cultural Discovery
Start your day with visits to iconic city landmarks like the National Memorial Chorten and the towering Buddha Dordenma Statue. Continue to the Motithang Takin Preserve to meet Bhutan’s national animal and explore Zilukha Nunnery for peaceful views. Discover Bhutanese arts at the Traditional Art School, browse local crafts at the Handicrafts Market, and explore sacred sites like Zangdopelri Temple. Evening free to stroll the local markets. Day 3: Scenic Drive to Gangtey, Phobjikha Valley via Dochula Pass
Journey to the breathtaking Phobjikha Valley via the picturesque Dochula Pass, known for its panoramic Himalayan views and 108 chortens. Enjoy several scenic stops along the way. Upon arrival in Gangtey, visit the revered Gangtey Monastery and take a nature walk through nearby villages. The serene valley offers a glimpse into rural Bhutanese life. Overnight stay in Gangtey.
Day 4: Gangtey Exploration & Transfer to Punakha
After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely walk through the glacial valley and visit the Crane Observation & Nature Center—especially rewarding if visiting between October and March, when endangered black-necked cranes migrate here. Later, drive to Punakha, stopping at the Wangdue township and its grand fortress. In the evening, enjoy a gentle walk through a traditional village to the sacred Chimi Lhakhang temple, dedicated to the “Divine Madman.” Overnight in Punakha.
Day 5: Punakha Dzong, Botanical Park & Drive to Paro
Begin your day with a visit to the magnificent Punakha Dzong, located at the confluence of the Pho and Mo rivers. For the adventurous, opt for a hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, offering panoramic views of the valley. Return via Dochula Pass with a scenic lunch stop and a chance to explore the Royal Botanical Park. Arrive in Paro and explore landmarks such as Rinpung Dzong, the National Museum, and ancient temples like Kyichu Lhakhang and Dungtse Lhakhang. Overnight in Paro.
Day 6: Tiger’s Nest Monastery Hike (Taktsang)
Embark on a memorable hike to the legendary Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), perched dramatically on a cliff 1,000 feet above the valley floor. This sacred site is one of Bhutan’s most iconic landmarks. The hike offers spectacular views and a sense of spiritual awe. Ponies can be hired for part of the climb, and alternate sightseeing can be arranged if needed. Return to Paro and enjoy your final evening with a relaxed stroll through the town. Overnight in Paro.
Day 7: Departure from Paro
After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport for your departure flight, carrying with you the peace, warmth, and unforgettable memories of the Land of the Thunder Dragon.
