Kerala Backwaters


Kerala Backwaters: The Kerala Backwaters are a chain of brackish lagoons and lakes lying parallel to the Arabian Sea coast known as the Malabar Coast of Kerala state in southern India. The network includes five large lakes including Ashtamudi Kayal and Vembanad Kayal linked by 1500 km of canals, both manmade and natural, fed by 38 rivers, and extending virtually half the length of Kerala state. Vembanad lake is the largest of the lakes, covering an area of 200kms, and bordered by Alleppey - "Venice of the East". Alleppey has a large network of canals that meander through the town. The Vallam Kali (the Snake Boat Race) held every year in August is a major attraction.

GLIMPSE OF KERALA - KERALA BACKWATERS TOUR ITINERARY:

DAY 0 : Singapore - Cochin

Depart Singapore to Cochin by Silk Air in the evening by MI 468 @ 2020, Arrive Cochin at 22:15 hrs. Meet and Transfer to Hotel . Overnight Stay at Cochin.

DAY 1 : Cochin - Munnar (130kms -4hrs)

After Breakfast, Proceed to Munnar, called the king of the Western Ghats. Enroute you will drive past Kerala villages that are lush green rainforests, and as we step uphill you will witness the spice plantations of Rubber, coffee, Avacado, Cardamon and Pepper and closer to Munnar you will spot a number of tea estates, the largest of them owned by the TATA group. Arrive and check-in to your hotel. Evening will be free for strolling around. Overnight stay at Munnar.

DAY 2 : Munnar

After Breakfast, proceed for local sightseeing covering places, Mattupatti Dam, here optionally you can take a boat ride on the lake. Then visit to Ervikulam National Park, Eco point, Eravikulam National Park to view the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, etc. evening visit to Pallivasal falls. Overnight stay at Munnar.

DAY 3 : Munnar - Thekkady

After Breakfast, proceed to Thekkady which forms park of Idukki and Kumili Hills range, this falls on the lower altitude which suits ideally for tea and spice planations that you will witness enroute in plenty. Upon arrival, check –in Hotel, Post Lunch visit to spice plantation and at sunset you will proceed on a boat safari to view the animals that would come to quench their thirst. Return to Hotel. Overnight Stay at Thekkady

DAY 4 : Thekkady - Alleppey

B/Fast and proceed to Alleppey called the Venice of East, that has a web of backawater canals connecting the villages with Vembanad Lake and the Arabian sea. Most of the Alleppey district are well connected with each other by backwater canals locally called as Kayals. You will embark on a houseboat which were originally rice carrying Kettuvallams, now converted into luxury floating hotels. You will be served a fresh tender coconut upon embarkation and after a homely local lunch proceed on cruise in the backwaters travessing narrow canals, witnessing the village life of backwater kerala. Evening boat will drop anchor on the Vembanad Lake. Dinner and overnight on board the houseboat.

DAY 5 : Alleppey - Cohin

Morning after breakfast disembark from the houseboat at the Nehru cup finishing point. Proceed to Cochin, called as Kochi locally, the city famed as “Queen of the Arabian Sea”, free for shopping and other activities. Evening view a performance of Kathakalli dance depicting the ancient epics. Overnight stay at Kochi.

DAY 6 : Cochin - Singapore

After Breakfast, Visit the Mattancherry Palace that was gifted by the Dutch to the local king at the time (Closed on Friday), Jewish synagogue (built 1568, Closed on Saturdays) which was revered by the local Jews who were involved in the spice trade for over 400 years and most have migrated to Israel towards the formation of their nation state. In this synagogue the inscriptions of Old Testament in Hebrew are preserved. Visit Fort Cochin, St. Francis Church (built 1510), the Dutch Cemetery and view the operation of the Chinese Fishing Nets. You will then embark on a harbour cruise to view both sides namely the Kochi and Wellington Island (a man made island that was created from the materials dredged while deepening the Cochin Harbour. Drop at airport to connect flight to Singapore.  Overnight flight.

DAY 7 : Singapore

Arrive in the morning to Singapore.

DAY 6 : Cochin - Agatti Island (B/D)

After Breakfast, Drop at airport to connect flight to Agatti Island, On arrival Meet and Transfer to Agatti Island beach resort, Free for Kayaking or snorkeling optionally. Overnight Stay.

Agatti island is one of the most remotest Island towns of the country which forms part of the Lakshadweep archipalego that extends to Maldives in the south. The unique blend of people who share both the culture of Kerala and the Arabian Middle east. This beautiful virgin islands are untouched and finest coral islands and beaches offers one a most tranquil experience ever.

DAY 7 : Agatti Island (B/L/D)

After breakfast, full day excursion to Bangaram, Tinakara, Pireli I and II.

These four uninhabited islands forms a trough with shallow lagoon that appears totally transparent and you can walk across the Tinakara, Pireli islands with water not exceeding your chest even for children.

DAY 8 : Agatti Island (B/L/D)

After Breakfast, full day free on own, Overnight stay.

You can optionally visit the village or go on an excursion trip to Kalpitty island or take a glass bottom trip or simply paddle on kayaks in the lagoon.

DAY 9 : Agatti Island - Cochin - Singapore (B)

After Breakfast, free on own till departure. Drop at airport to connect flight to Cochin. Upon arrival transfer to city for shopping. Late evening transfer to International airport. Depart by night flight to Singapore

DAY 10 : Singapore

Arrive Singapore with happy memories of the trip to west coast of India.
